I love deep and introspective anime, the kind that tells a story that changes your life. But I also love anime that just delivers exactly what you expect, and Hellsing does that. I wanted vampires, violence, and dead nazis and that's what I got. I would have enjoyed more lore, a lot seem speculative to me, but I enjoy filling in the gaps. I also can appreciate the subtle, perhaps unintentional/happy accident characterizations we see upon rewatch/read.

I'm also fascinated that, while the Anime and OVA split into their own branches, they cover a lot of the same themes, a lot of the same plot points, a lot of the same feelings. Alucard is saved by Seras from dying for real in both during the final battle. The question of Integra becoming a vampire is heavy and in the air at the end of both of them. Seras struggles with being a vampire; the anime focuses more on it in ways I wish the OVA also did. Alucard is a surprisingly good dad in both?? Perhaps the anime is more bog-standard vs. the ova because the ova adds in the nazis, which is from left field, but I enjoy both. I know a lot of folks criticize the anime because it has more fanservice, but maybe I'm just used to worse anime with worse fanservice, because it wasn't the worst.

I also greatly appreciate that in the Manga/OVA there is only one scene at the VERY end of the manga where you clearly get a fanservice shot of Seras. For the rest of the series, I'd argue the most sexualized character is Alucard (and/or Anderson)- and it's pretty impressive, considering he's fully clothed down to the hands, and ultimately appears almost without Sexual Interest, not even laughing or arguing with Pip when he accuses Alucard of using his "sex beam" mind control. He makes references to being hard, etc. but it's always paired with violence/hatred/bloodlust, he doesn't make a comment on any human or even Integra for that matter.
